Experimenting with Joomla commenting solutions

Recently I decided to experiment with Joomla commenting plugins/modules/components. It turned out that there are many – but unfortunately the most popular ones were not for free. That's why I decided not to use them. The one which seemed the most reasonable for me was yvComment (2.00.003). This is a very powerful commenting solution. You can find all the details here. From the yvComment documentation one can find out that the author recommends to use it with Joomla 1.6.3 or higher. I had Joomla 1.6.1 installed at that time so I decided to upgrade. I was a little concerned about that, because I remembered my previous attempts to upgrade some PHP5 frameworks, like Symfony or Zend and they were simply impossible to upgrade. I was quite surprised to find out that Joomla developers prepare frequently upgrade packs which can be used to upgrade from one Joomla version to another. I downloaded upgrade pack 1.6.0 to 1.6.6 and it worked as a charm Smile

After that I successfully installed yvComments which I than wanted to integrate with some captcha plugin. Unfortunately it turned out that the recommended by yvComment captcha plugin – KeyCaptcha cannot be tested on localhost server, because it requires online code authentication. It was quite a shock for me so another captcha solution had to be found. I downloaded a very simple plugin called OSOL Captcha and it was the first time I had to change some plugin code to work with my yvComments, but it was a minor change in session handling.

Thanks to all above experiments everyone is able to comment on news and photo galleries. Enjoy!

Sunsets

Although I always wanted to take some photos of sunsets there were always some obstacles ahead – first of all there was no good camera, second of all there was no cloudless weather when I was at the see side. But this time I made it Smile And yes I know that many people have taken this kind of photos before me, I also know that they have been probably better quality than mine – I don't care!

All photos here were taken in August 2011 at Baltic See in Łeba. I was extremely surprised how many models one can find at the see shore – you just have to look around, thank you all Smile
